Research Challenge

A research challenge that I have had in the recent past was when I was researching a paper for my English class. The paper was on stem cell research. I started off great because there is a fair amount of information out there. The problem is that everyone publishes the same information and I ran out of info. I was unsure of how to find more and better information to lengthen my paper.

  1. Hi Kirby,

Was the assignment for your research class to write a persuasive essay on the topic, or a full blown research paper? What resources did you use to look for stem cell research information? Also, were you relying on opinion pieces, or actual scholarly articles to get information?

Whether writing a persuasive essay or a research paper, it is not enough to collect other people's opinions on stem cell research or other controversial issues (and people have many!). It is also good to get actual research articles on the subject that prove whether or not what people see as positives or negatives are actually sound.

To find such articles on a medical topic such as stem cell research, it is best to visit our databases that deal with health and medicine. PubMed and CINAHL come to mind. On CINAHL, many articles are full text, too!

Aside from IM 204, any other research projects coming up?

    Sincerely,
    R. Wexelbaum

  2. Apologies! I looked at your blog list and typed "Kirby" instead of "Adam".
